This comprehensive book explains in lucid, assured terms how to practice the fertility awareness method (FAM), a natural, scientifically proven but little-known form of birth control (which is not to be confused with the woefully ineffective "rhythm" method). Author Toni Weschler has been teaching fertility awareness for almost 20 years, and it's only just now gaining in popularity. As the book explains, by using simple fertility signs including peaks in morning body temperature and changes in cervical position and cervical mucus, it's possible to determine when ovulation is taking place. Fertility awareness is therefore useful for not only couples who are trying to conceive, but for those who are aiming to avoid pregnancy without the use of chemical contraceptives. It will be of special interest to those women who have suffered from infertility; many FAM practitioners have told the author that by filling in the detailed charts in the book, they've realized that they were chronically miscarrying, even when their doctors told them they weren't conceiving at all. As the book explains, by charting body temperature, it's simple to tell when pregnancy has occurred--and when there's danger of miscarriage. Taking Charge of Your Fertility also explains how to choose the sex of your baby by timing intercourse according to certain fertility signs. It also features thorough, easy-to-understand explanations of hormones, the menstrual cycle, and menopause, along with fertility tests and treatments and their long- and short-term side effects, plus a topnotch resource section. Recommended for any woman who wants to better understand her body. --Erica Jorgensen

Truly Exceptional and a Must have!
I was deeply impressed and pleased with this book. I am a Ph. D in Sexuality and know a lot about fertility and conception. I absolutely agree that the information is essential especially for young women because it will put their mind at ease about several normal, physiological changes that happen within their bodies.
I also agree that the FAM method is better than the “rhythm method” and that’s why I highly recommend it to my female clients. I am happy that this great book becomes more and more popular. It is truly the “bible” when it comes to how the female body functions. I would like to strongly recommend in addition to it Alan Ritz’ “Scientifically guaranteed male multiple orgasms and ultimate sex”, which I believe is the equivalent of this book for the male body. Also if your husband has any sexual problems (premature ejaculation, low libido, (semi) impotence and even infertility he will find a lot of first class and science-based information in it. It is pleasure to highly recommend both bestsellers.

EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I bought this book when I was approaching marriage and seeking a natural method of birth control. 11 cycles later, it is working perfectly, I know my body, LOVE the fact that I know what is going on inside me, love the fact that when we want children, I'll know exactly how to time it, would recommend it to EVERYONE who asks me, and have bought it for others I know who are approaching marriage.
Toni explains SO much of the woman's body, and I learned a ton from this book that I, a woman, had never known about myself before!
I cannot say enough in praise of this book. GET IT!
Heterosexist... but educational.
This book is very heterosexist and monogomy-centric, and the author seems to really judge teens who get pregnant(!), but if you can take that with a grain of salt, it is an excellent educational tool. It has many helpful things in it that I didn't even know, and I knew a LOT about fertility already being someone who is in the field of childbirth. Great pictures too, though it really could have more than the tiny colour insert. I just wish it was more like a textbook, and less like the author's personal diatribe against people that aren't like her. I think it should also discuss STIs more than it does, and not constantly tell the reader that they are probably not the sort of people who would contract AIDS easily. UGH.
