Editorial Reviews
Album Description
2007 four CD Proper box from the first family of Country Music. These four discs contain 103 classic tunes from the Carter Family, who practically invented American Country and Folk music. Without their influence and inspiration, the American musical landscape would be very different...and a lot less interesting! Includes 'Bury Me Under The Weeping Willow Tree', 'Single Girl Married Man', 'Keep On The Sunny Side', 'Motherless Child', 'Wabash Cannonball' and many more. Proper.
Album Details
There Surely Can Never have Been an Act Like the Carter Family which Laid the Foundations of a Musical Genre, and Then Adhered Completely to their Initial Style Over the Subsequent Decades. A.p.carter Fastidiously Ignored the Changes that were Taking Place in that Genre, Whilst the World Went Through the Depression and Then a World War. He Personally Survived a Divorce, the Re-marriage of his Wife and Managed to Keep the Group Going on the Straight and Narrow Through all These Traumatic Events. From their Ground Breaking Recordings in 1927, Where They Laid the Foundations for Modern Country Music, their Impact on Country Music was Enormous and They Defined Close Harmony Singing for Decades to Come. Bill Monroe, Flatt and Scruggs, Louvin Brothers, Mac Wiseman, Johnny Cash, Stonewall Jackson, Joan Baez, Emmylou Harris and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band Are Just a Handful of the Artists who Owe a Major Debt to the Music of the Carter Family.
