Editorial Reviews

From Amazon.com
Minutes to Midnight stands to defend Linkin Park's status as the hardest-rockin' softies in mainstream music. Like its predecessors Hybrid Theory (2000) and Meteroa (2003), Minutes to Midnight flexes plenty of decibel-heavy muscle ("Given Up," "Bleed It Out," "No More Sorrow") and made-to-order, melodic radio fare ("Leave Out All the Rest," "Shadow of the Day," "In Pieces"). But for all its volume, Linkin Park likes to paint its heart openly on its sleeve with suspicious sonic drama, as in the palpably saccharine "Valentine's Day." Fortunately, co-producer Rick Rubin brings all these elements to pinnacle effect with the surprise "Hands Held High." On past efforts, the combination of breezy keyboard, arpeggiated guitar, choral vocals, and a military snare-beat would yield another slab of smarm, here MC Mike Shinoda drops the two best verses of his career, blending vocal styles with singer Chester Bennington for a moving piece that's as welcome a repertorial addition as Linkin Park is ever likely to muster. --Jason Kirk

Customer Reviews

Well okay...3
I loved listening to the first two Linkin Park albums with my kids. They loved songs like Breaking the Habit, Nobody's Listening etc. About the only one I would skip was One Step Closer (even though it ruled) because I didn't want them telling each other to shutup. However this has been killed with this album. Can't listen to it with my kids. So what fun is that? If I want to hear the f word I'll buy Green Day or something. The songs are still good but the apparent attempt to get more street cred knocks it down a few notches.

Hybrid Theory it ain't1
This is a bunch of crap! And what's with all the handclapping on the record? I can't believe what happened to these guys... what's next ballads with Kid Rock? What a bunch of posers/losers...

Better Everytime 4
The first time i heard this album I wasnt too impressed but everytime I hear it I love it more and more.

Wake - Good for an intro. No singing in it or anything so i usually skip it.

Given Up - I wasnt too big on this song the first time I heard it but now i love it. I love the beat of the song and I always end up getting it stuck in my head. Great track

What I've Done - The first single is a bit different but good none the less. not one of the best songs on the album thou.

Leave Out All The Rest - Great Rock Song. One of those songs that you just have to turn up.

Bleed It Out - I LOVE this track. Reminds me of the older LP. Incredibly catchy. Its one of those songs that you have to sing along to when you hear it. Its almost impossible not too and the chorus is so simple that you can sing along to it the first time you hear it

Shadow of the Day - This is my favourite song on the album. I like the chorus, i like the music, i like how it builds up at the end. i like everything about this track.

The Little Things Give You Away - I dont really like this one too much. Usually skip it.

Hands Held High - I love the lyrics of this song. It confronts a lot of delicate issues. "When you cant put gas in your tank. And these f**kers are laughing their way to the bank, cashing their cheque, asking you to have compassion and have some respect". "It's ironic, at times like this you pray but a bomb blew the mosque up yesterday." This is a powerful track. Good for LP on this one.

No More Sorrow - Another great rock song. Love this one. Great chorus and great beat to it.

Valentines Day - Took me a little while to get into this one. Starts pretty slow but turns out to be a pretty good song

In Between - Kind of 50/50 on this song. Its starting to grow on me I think. Nothing spectacular about this song.

In Pieces - Dont like this one at all
