Product Description
In addition to a depraved parade of porn and politics, MIDNIGHT BLUE shocked late-night cable with its scandalous celebrity segments and jaw-dropping star interviews. These are the famous - and infamous - like you've never seen or heard them before:
- The "Barbra Streisand" Porno Movie - Only Midnight Blue dared to televise the '60s stag film alleged to show the singer/actress the way she was. - O.J. Simpson - The sports legend and suspected murderer is captured at the 1979 Hooker's Ball sharing his thoughts on sex, crime and prostitution. - The Rob Lowe Sex Tape - The uncensored broadcast of this explicit sex video nearly destroyed the actor's career. - Arnold Schwarzenegger - The future Governor Of California discusses his own orgasms and ambitions, accompanied by eye-popping nude photos. - The Go-Gos Backstage - The video that rocked the music world, featuring Belinda Carlisle enjoying an after hours masturbation session. - R. Crumb - The legendary underground comic artist holds forth on fans, sexual fantasies and tantric masturbation.
...plus Gilbert Gottfried, Larry Flynt, Russ Meyer, Penn & Teller, Buck Henry, Tiny Tim, Debbie Harry, Garrett Morris, Al 'Grandpa Munster' Lewis and more, Al Goldstein's hilarious "F%$#Y*@!" rants targeting Howard Stern, Donald Trump, Sean Penn and Jack Nicolson, plus vintage commercials for New York City's call girls, orgy rooms, gay bathhouses and beyond!

Think celebrities embarrassing themselves on camera is a recent phenomenon? Nope--Al Goldstein, publisher of Screw magazine, was making hay with them back in the '80s with his notorious cable access show, Midnight Blue, and now the best (worst?) of these Hollywood horror stories have been compiled for this DVD. The emphasis here shifts away from the porn-centric interviews of the first two volumes of Midnight Blue to explore the seamier side of mainstream pop culture, though interviews with Hustler chief Larry Flynt and exploitation legend Russ Meyer hew closely to the core Midnight Blue/Goldstein aesthetic (i.e., slobbering over women, though the Meyer talk is informative and well-conducted). The other interviews offer glimpses of celebrities at their rawest and weirdest: Goldstein's co-host Alex Bennett debates the authenticity of a XXX loop that reportedly stars Barbra Streisand (it doesn't); O.J. Simpson lurks at a hooker convention; Robert Crumb airs his particular obsessions; Tiny Tim unleashes a graphic monologue about his personal life; and a pre-superstar Arnold Schwarzenegger discusses the merits of bodybuilding (and is seen posing with a naked woman). Two infamous bootleg videotapes are also aired: the Rob Lowe sex scandal tape, and a backstage blowout with the Go-Go's, who abuse an abysmally drunken roadie. As with the other Midnight Blue discs, Vol. 3 includes a barrage of original ad spots for New York's swing clubs, adult novelties, and porn movies, as well as a pop-up trivia text track that offers ephemeral info on the talent gathered on this DVD. --Paul Gaita
Review
The third installment in New York After Midnight's series of Midnight Blue compilations is a cultish affair aimed at the show's fans. Midnight Blue Vol. 3: Celebrities is primarily devoted to collecting the many celebrity interviews that appeared on the show. It offers a fairly eclectic array of interview subjects, including everyone from O.J. Simpson to Russ Meyer to Penn & Teller. Unfortunately, a lot of these interviews end before they can really get started, but they still offer a certain curiosity value (especially the ones conducted by the fearless Al Goldstein). There are also excerpts from some famous "celebrity videos" like the infamous Go-Go's hotel-room video. However, some viewers might be disappointed by these segments because they were censored to fit community-cable standards. That said, the entertainment level is brought up by the presence of Midnight Blue's one-of-a-kind adult service commercial between bits and also several segments in which Al Goldstein rants about celebs who have inspired his ire. Ultimately, Midnight Blue Vol. 3: Celebrities is best left to fans of the series, but there's enough amusing raunch here to entertain them. ~ Donald Guarisco, All Movie Guide
