Scooby-Doo, Where are You! was a pivotal television program created by Hanna-Barbera in 1969 that changed children's programming by juxtaposing a group of everyday kids and their goofy dog with truly frightening monsters and elaborate mysteries. After its initial success on CBS, Scooby-Doo moved to ABC and, in 1976, was paired with the new show Dynomutt--a show that built upon Scooby-Doo's success by extending a similar formula to the world of superheroes. In this complete Scooby-Doo Dynomutt series, 16 pairs of episodes follow the Scooby-Doo gang and Dynomutt and Blue Falcon as they solve crimes that involve everything from modern day burglars and skyscraper construction crews to a cave man seeking a college education and newly awakened Aztec ghosts. In the Scooby-Doo cartoons, a nervous Scooby-Doo and Shaggy inevitably manage to stumble upon crucial clues, the accident-prone Daphne always seems to endanger the entire group with her missteps, and the brainy Velma seems destined to solve every mystery with her infallible intellect. Scooby-Doo's cousin Scooby-Dum is introduced in this series in "The Gruesome Game of the Gator Ghoul" and even Shaggy's uncle, the magician Zarko, makes an appearance in "Scared a Lot in Camelot." Harrowing chases and an overwhelming preoccupation with food and Scooby Snacks are, of course, a given. Dynomutt features the ever-malfunctioning mechanical Dog Wonder Dynomutt--a sidekick who, despite being endowed with an amazing array of technical gadgets, consistently impedes the Batman-like superhero Blue Falcon's efforts to save Big City from a ceaseless progression of criminals. Somehow the odd pair always manages to solve the crime and capture the bad guys, keeping Big City safe until the next villain's crime spree. Bonus features include the "Eerie Mystery of Scooby-Doo and Dynomutt's History" that details the creation of both Scooby-Doo and Dynomutt and features interviews with television executive Fred Silverman, Scooby-Doo creative producer Iwao Takamoto, Dynomutt head writer Joe Ruby, and many others vital to the creation of the two cartoons. "In Their Own Words" features reminiscences by voice talents like Casey Kasem (Shaggy), Don Messick (Scooby-Doo), Gary Owens (Blue Falcon) and Frank Welker (Freddy and Dynomutt); and "The Scooby-Doo Dynomutt Files" offers a collection of original still sketches from the Hanna-Barbera Vault. Complete Seasons Of Scooby-Doo's Best Mysteries!
My earliest and most fondest memory of watching the classic 1969 Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! was in the 70s early in the morning when it was still dark outside. Considering how Scooby is often parodied today, this may surprise you but back then (to my young eyes) Scooby-Doo was kinda scary and creepy thanks to the creepy background settings, the monsters (my favorite: the skeleton-headed spaceman with the crazy laugh) and Hoyt Curtin's creepy underscore which could build up tension like Bernard Hermann did for Hitchcock. Luckily, the tension would be broken with Scooby and Shaggy's comedic antics which typically resulted in the "musical chase numbers" which would conclude with the 'monster' getting trapped, then unmasked followed by the villain's obligatory "And I would've gotten away with it, too, if hadn't been for those meddling kids and their dog." As predictable, or even corny as others deem it be, all of this - the pure 60s/70s fun - is what has eternally endeared Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! to me above all the other versions. Created and produced by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, Scooby-Doo's mystery-solving format remains one of most often imitated shows to date. Fangface, Clue Club, Captain Caveman & The Teen Angels, Rickety Rocket, Jabberjaw (just to name a few) all owe credit to Scooby-Doo. After the two seasons here in this collection the quality of show was diminished to rather "cartoony proportions." Though, some versions were still interesting to watch such as 1972's The New Scooby Doo Movies where the gang would team up with guest stars such as Batman & Robin, The Addams Family, Jerry Lewis, Tim Conway, Sandy Duncan, and such. There were three versions Scooby Doo's opening theme for the two seasons in this collection: One is a rare instrumental only version used in the first few episodes of season one; the other is the classic vocal version used for the remainder of season one; and then there's the one that has the same music and lyrics as the classic version but is sung by the "chase songs" artist for season two. For the "grooviest" adventures of Freddy, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy, and Scoob, this DVD collection is definitely the best buy!

Great to have, but...
Don't get me wrong, I am glad I bought this - it's great to have so many episodes on DVD, and watching the unmasking-of-the-villain scenes, particularly from the second season, is just hilarious (Helga and the suction cups anyone?) However, my main gripe is this: the "Scooby Dooby Doo where are you, We got some work to do now" theme song didn't debut until the fourth or fifth episode of the first season. Before that they used an instrumental theme which was much creepier, but was still used as the show's main underscore for the first two seasons. But for some inexplicable reason, Warner Bros have released this "collector's" edition with the original music replaced by the more familiar theme song on ALL the first season's episodes. Why?!?! Still, they've kept the original Hanna-Barbera logos at the end of each episode which is something, I suppose.

Great but....
This set looks great.... The box is far better then the Seasons of Scooby Doo Where are you but no labels for Discs 3 or 4 so that we could find out where the extras and episodes are... Not all the episodes are there either. No madam Ape face, Shadoman, or Beast woman to be found. I am a little bit disappointed, but We got the majority of the episodes here.
It was good to see the interviews with some of the voice cast.. That was the high point of the set... You get to see character designs while some of the actors talk about their experience on these shows...
The cartoons though suffer a bit from dirt or white spots prevelant on older shows. Even some scenes show mistakes in the Red Volture episode. All in all the shows look really good on the DVD format.. A little bit of restoration could have helped too.
Please watch this with an open mind as some people are too quick to judge this old show. I hope that all the episodes of Dynomutt will make it on to DVD soon...
The Scooby Doo show was a noble effort from HB but it lacked the feel of the original Scooby Doo series... The Gator Goul and the headless horseman are just 2 of a few favorites on the show... Nice overall....
