Customer Reviews

Bauhaus ressurrected once again on DVD... brilliant!!!!5
I will admit that I may be a bit biased in this review, because I am a serious Bauhaus fan... I enjoyed this DVD immensely... About time it was released in this format!! I was unable to track down the videos for ages, so when I saw that they would be relased together on DVD, I was ecstatic and went out and braved the Canadian winter to buy it on Dec 6. I raced home and as soon as the skies darkened, I decided to watch it. I will say that they don't make bands like this anymore. Anyone who dismisses Bauhaus as another Bowie or T.Rex ripoff doesn't know what they're missing out on! The dark, glamorously theatrical stage persona of Peter Murphy, and intense sensual drama of the music pulls the viewer/listener in from the first note. Each member is in top form. Kevin Haskins and David J hold down the rythm section flawlessly, and Daniel Ash draws such aching and otherworldly cries from his guitar... and then there's Peter Murphy, at times perfectly still gazing straight into the white lights, at other times convulsing madly like a man posessed. The interaction between the band members is minimal, but memorable when it occurs, such as the famous "Rosegarden Funeral Of Sores" call and response between Peter and Daniel, and the members singing "we love our audience" in unison at the end of the show. The promo videos are great as well. 'Telegram Sam' is jumpy, jerky, with the members all stuck in a tiny space between two walls. 'Mask' is eerie, very arty and disturbing, the members all in garish body and face makeup.'Ziggy' is performance onstage in front of rabid fans with cuts to Peter in a cage. 'Spirit' is perhaps the most literal to the song, with the 'fifth' member of the band, the ghost walking among the audience members. The final clip for 'She's in Parties' is decadence, icy glamour and detachment shot in black and white. Just as all of their songs have a life and personality of their own, so do their visual counterparts, one is never quite like another. This DVD is a must have for any Bauhaus fan, I guarantee it will make you fall even deeper in love with the sound and the personality of the band e! Also recommended for any open minded fan of music who dares to dare!!!
