Noir : The Maidens With Black Hands
If you enjoy girls, guns and intrigue then the Noir series is for you. This disc set is probably a good buy comparing to buying each DVD for around 35$, which turns out to be around 300$ in the end. This series contains 24 episodes and I must admit that I was reluctant of buying this because all the main characters were female. Kirika, Mireille, Chloe and Althena. Kirika leads the story with her lost memories and her perfect killing technique. She doesn't feel guilty when she kills and so she hunts down an assassin to find out about her past with her. Mireille, together they form the group called Noir. They don't know that the name is directed in a long history of blood and killing. Chloe comes in within half of the series declaring she is the true noir and Althena seems to have a history with all the girls. A lot of people tend to get annoyed by the long stares in this show, because there are numerous, but you tend to get used to them. Noir is basically an intriguing story with killing. Story comes first and killing comes second. Basically I mean that you won't see much blood or gore because it's not needed for the story. I am not saying that the killing scenes are bad; they are highly original at times. Noir is a very good story that takes in the viewer with the strong emotions the girls feel (which are hardly girly). I tend to like the four females, and I know they could have done this with boys but I think viewers (guys) like the idea of girls jumping around with guns better. Also, if you think that Noir seems interesting, you can get a smaller series with the same kind of theme except the girls know about their past, Gunslinger girls (13 episodes).
