Editorial Reviews
From Amazon.co.uk
Red Snapper have never toed the line, somehow leaving fans and critics alike bemused, beguiled and baffled with an organic genre-jumping blend that lies somewhere between surf and rock, jazz and techno. The trio of session musicians who formed the band in 1993 have long been admired for their feisty live shows in which "real" instruments push dance toward its boundaries. Consisting of seven new tracks and augmented by a Sabres of Paradise remix of "Tunnel" (which originally appeared on the Making Bones LP in 1998) plus two live tracks, Red Snapper looks a little thrown together, but boy, does it sound fine.
With the freeform instrumental flow of jazz bound by a warm pulsating double bass groove and the surrounding cinematic edge lending a futuristic air, Red Snapper is perhaps the band's most mellow outing yet. But while the downbeat, near-melancholy feel of "Downsizing" and the teasing piano and string-laced atmospherics of "Regrettable" prove masterfully chilled, it's the thumping drum & bass-tinged genius of "Tunnel (Live)" that confirms this is a unique act worth catching. --Christopher Barrett
Chronique amazon.fr
Our Aim Is To Satisfy.
