Editorial Reviews

From Amazon.com
Sporting a hot new track along with five remixes, The Pimp is one of three late 2002 EPs from Fatboy Slim (Camber Sands and Illuminati are the others) based on material from his 2000 record, Halfway Between the Gutter and the Stars. A potential mainstay on any DJ's deck, the deeply funky title track plays a lascivious, electronically altered Bootsy Collins (who also shows up on Illuminati) vocal off a rumbling bassline, producing a fun, sleazy sound. The remixes are of a similar bent, offering grubby, sweaty takes on "Drop the Hate" and "Retox," along with a swaggering version of Halfway's overplayed yet still potent "Star 69." The "Midfield General's Disco Reshuffle Mix" of "Talkin' 'bout My Baby" uses a passionate vocal sample to deliver a lo-fi jolt, ending this short and sultry workout on a relatively wholesome note. --Matthew Cooke
