Canadian chanteuse Peaches made her debut in early 2000, rapping on Berlin-based avant-rap maverick Gonzales' Gonzales Uber Alles. But from the sweaty, sweary dominatrix-on-heat tones of "Fuck The Pain Away", it is very quickly evident that her debut, The Teaches Of Peaches is going to be a one-woman show. Performed, recorded, mixed and produced by the gal herself, the battered drum-machine and knackered lo-fi synth might recall the skeletal post-punk of Suicide, but Peaches' full-blooded delivery is more than enough to put some flesh on the album's bare bones. No-holds-barred and no-strings-attached, the lyrics (take, for example the less-than-poetic refrain of "AA XXX": "Lickie lickie suckie suckie/No-one here could say they don't wanna fuckie fuckie") are seldom any less than explicitly pornographic. But the strength of The Teaches Of Peaches is the way that it turns sexual objectification and macho self-aggrandisment on its head--all from an empowered, and commendably dirty female's perspective. Merrill Nisker alias Peaches folâtre hardement ("suckin' on my titties like you wanted me" proclame-t-elle dès "Fuck The Pain Away") dans un lupanar éclairé disco-punk. Cette Canadienne hédoniste ne possède qu'un sujet, sa libido débridée et une méthode, l'irrévérence trash. Une énergique boîte à rythmes, une ligne de basse sensuelle et des riffs de guitares répétitifs ("Rock Show" ou "Lovertits") tapissent ce premier album aussi musicalement incorrect que le Emotional Rescue des Stones période disco. Peaches laisse son mauvais goût triompher dans un décor électro-bruitiste qui scandalisera les ligues de vertu.
