Ultimate Chicago Live
Vintage Chicago fans -it doesn't get much better than this!
The original line up was at it's creative peak with three strong,
often experimental double albums under their belt, when they released this. It was a fine blend of guitar and horns playing funk, jazz and rock fusion, with a few commerical hits, not too many (Questions, Make me Smile, Beginnings, Does Anybody...etc). They hadn't become middle of the road pop driven yet.
On this beautifully remastered four cd set we are treated to many of their complete suites, played live. It's punchy, the band stretches out, are high spirited, and not afraid to improvise. Can be smooth when need be. It's a near perfect portrait of the original band sound played live. The studio recordings are of course great (Chicago 1-3 albums) but are more studio perfect, calculated and produced. The raw excitement and energy here is necessary to round out your pleasure of this fine band's most creatively important albums, when they were still not afraid to be underground and different.
This remastered set includes a bonus disc of Carnegie live tracks, posters, and booklet in a handsome cream coloured box with the group logo embossed on one side, the track listing on the other. It's hard to go wrong here, especially if you are a fan of their early albums and want more! Go for it.
