Editorial Reviews

Review
Largely a character study of Rick (Jake Busey), a deranged, sex-obsessed, small-time drug dealer (he looks like he even smells bad), this fast-moving, quirky road saga is the cinematic equivalent of a cheap paperback that you can't put down. Rick is disgusting, vile, and foul -- a verbal assault on a pair of cops is particularly uncomfortable -- but he's as exciting as he is despicable. Papa (that is, Gary Busey) would be proud. The other stars -- Jennifer Tilly and Crispin Glover particularly -- are bizarrely captivating, and Eric Roberts turns up out of left field near the end in yet another inexplicably weird hairstyle to provide menace. Glover is at the top of his form -- he hasn't been in this much control since The Orkly Kid -- as the bird-like virgin confronted with Rick's extroverted lifestyle. The laughs are rough ones, and the film doesn't have what's considered a big finish (although it is thoughtful, which doesn't quite jive with the proceedings), but it's a heck of a ride nonetheless. ~ Buzz McClain, All Movie Guide

Synopsis
Based on a novel by Bruce Craven, this road picture follows a dope fiend named Rick (Jake Busey), who believes his goal in life is to track down Ginger (Jennifer Tilly), a famous porn star who is currently staying in her Beverly Hills hideaway. Rick is obsessed with Ginger, watches her movies obsessively, and deals drugs on the side, all to the chagrin of his lover, Tamara (Natasha Lyonne). He decides to seek out Ginger via the road, and along the way picks up Jules (Crispin Glover), a neurotic, virginal type. On the way to meet Ginger, he finds an unwelcome surprise in the form of Ginger's very jealous husband (Eric Roberts). Fast Sofa also features Bijou Phillips and Adam Goldberg in small supporting roles. ~ Jason Clark, All Movie Guide

Worst Movie Ever1
This is the worst movie ever made. Except, maybe for Liar's Poker.

Move over Chad McQueen, Jake Busey is coming through.5
That's right, everyone. I know that all of you out there thought that Chad McQueen was this planet's greatest actor, but he's got a challanger. It's burnout basketcase Gary Busey's son, Jake. He enthralled audiances on TV's across this nation in this should-be smash. Of course, the only ones with enough integrity not to attempt to keep loose cannon Jake Busey down were the powers that be at video stores. I guess that a cross bow weilding, tin foil jacket donning, bleached blonde cowboy was not good enough for the big screen. Well, frankly, I am disgusted once again by the American film industry. If men of sight and wisdom were running the show, Fast Sofa would have been the Oscar winner for Best Picture, and Jake Busey would have responded to the outstreached hand of the presenter of the Best Actor Oscar with a jerking away of his accemptance handshake, pretending to brush his flowing bleached locks behind his bloodshot ear, and yell "WHOO! PSYCH!" Now I ask you, does it get any better than that? If you're not convinced, then you must be El Diablo, or live in Belmar. Anyway, I give Fast Sofa 5 cans, and nominate it, and Jake Busey, for Manwich Awards in 2003. As ever, this is Art Vandelay signing off, and remember kids, if it isn't B, it isn't me.
