What a Mixed Bag!
When I first started listening to this CD I was so disappointed. The first 9 tracks are techno club mixes which I found repetitive and annoying. Definately something I couldn't belly dance to. And then, WOW! - tracks 10 to 16 are just amazing! Such a switch. Tracks 10 to 16 are filled with fabulous drum solos and Middle Eastern orchestral pieces. So I now only listen to those last tracks.
This CD was difficult to rate in whole but broken down, I give 1 star to Tracks 1 to 9, and 5 stars to tracks 10 to 16.
Is it dance or meditation?
There is someting unique about this CD that seperates it from the other two Harem albums that I own. The first Harem album Rythm Colour is more acustic. That one is a must have if you like traditional sound but done well. Harem II (this one) has more techno but it has a meditational element to it that is hard to describe. It is perfect to play start to end. It is truly spritual. It moves your soul and whiggles your body. Harem III also has a number of excellent entumental tracks but some of the vocal tracks are annoying. If you like the techno element in this second album, you really need to check out some of the tracks in the third one. If you are an acoustic person, stick with I, II only..
A must have!!!!
This is an incredible cd for those of you that appreciate percussion type music. I went to Turkey on vacation and heard this playing in a club and I had to go up to the DJ in order to ask him who the band was. You can't help moving your entire body as soon as this cd starts playing. This one is definitely a keepsake.
