Amazon.com Essential Video
Screenwriter Bruce Joel Rubin (author of the fanciful Ghost) made his directorial debut with this more serious confrontation with the realities of death. Michael Keaton plays an advertising executive who learns he is dying even as his wife (Nicole Kidman) is pregnant. The film beautifully focuses on his anger over everything: the unfinished business of his life and the probability he'll never meet his child. The late Dr. Haing S. Ngor (The Killing Fields) is terrific as a doctor who helps Keaton's character to recognize the corrosiveness of his rage and to let go. The film is a heartbreaker but truly cathartic for anyone who has felt the blunt pain of losing someone close. Keaton is outstanding. --Tom Keogh

Synopsis
In My Life, Michael Keaton stars as Bob Jones, who has just been informed that his wife Gail (Nicole Kidman) is pregnant with their first child. However, he has also been told he has kidney cancer that has spread to his lungs; the longest Bob is expected to live is four months, which will deny him the joy of witnessing the birth of his child. Raging within, he visits a Chinese healer, Mr. Ho (Haing S. Ngor), who encourages him to let go of all the anger and fear he has kept trapped inside himself. Bob proceeds to videotape himself, on the advice of Mr. Ho, where Bob will talk to his unborn child and discuss what he has learned in life. In the process of the videotape sessions, Bob discovers that his anger resides in his past with his family, and Bob reveals secrets that he has kept hidden from himself and his wife through the years. ~ Paul Brenner, All Movie Guide

Have a FULL box of kleenex ready
I knew this movie was suppose to be a "tear jerker", I wasn't prepared for the magnitude of it. Having said that, I should also say it really made me think. As Keaton resolves his feelings about his life and how he's lived it, I learned a lot about my own. Sounds corny but I think I came away a better person after watching this one.
"My Life" will certainly touch you
What a profound movie. The plot has been described by other reviewers, so I won't repeat. All I can say is "My Life" is one movie that will profoundly touch you, the sign of a truly great movie.
Great movie
I must say this movie is very sad. I do not like to cry but I cried at the end. This movie is about a man who gives all he can to his family. He makes one wish to live to see his child being born. I have to say the ending to this movie really moved me as a person. I rate this movie a 5 because the whole movie was wonderful. I recommend this movie to anyone.
