Imagine being Barbara Crooker...
Imagine being Barbara Crooker...like a photographer capturing a narrative moment in each poem, as it was, so does Barbara's achingly beautiful and honestly painful poetry. She deftly draws for us intimate moments of her many-faceted life full of worry and wonder using words over and over again like: dance, love, circle, holding, sky, clouds, blue, songs, frost, grief, uncharted, loss, borders, horizon, gardens and winter...but in such a special way that one thinks one can "see" these personal vignettes. Barbara sounds as if she is talking to me only ("I want to tell you something") and yet her poetic stories are universal. And happily, although she describes the death of her father and illness of her mother and autism of her son, she does not dwell in darkness; she also involves us in her love of sunflowers, eggplants, all things Italian, the birds in her garden, Bruce Springsteen, Paris and her husband. Congratulations, Barbara..."Line Dance" is wonderful book of poetry to keep close to my heart.
