Editorial Reviews

From Booklist
There is no better indicator of a craft's resurgence or ascendance than the number of new books devoted to the subject. And although knitting's revival has been in the works since the beginning of the millennium (if not before), this new innovative book signals a more sophisticated knitter in the making.Epstein never disappoints. Her retinue and reputation expand with every book, from Knitting Hats (1997) to this second command performance (given the phenomenal kudos for Knitting on the Edge). It is simple, really, in this ultimate collection of more than 350 different choices for ribs, cords, appliques, colors, and a type called nouveau. Document it via a color swatch, easy-to-understand directions, and stitch repetition information. Then practice it in a breathtaking handful of patterns, such as a knockout circus circle scarf to a showstopping cozy coat with fur-ball trim. What's next, Nicky? Barbara Jacobs

Wonderful Book of Designs for Edge Knitting5
Nicky Epstein does not disappoint with her Knitting Over the Edge book. If you've seen the pink shawl on the cover and are intrigued, you should see the whole shawl. There's a beautiful photo of the shawl in the book along with the pattern. The shawl is absolutely lovely, done in a soft pink wool in basketweave stitch with crocheted roses lining the edge.

There are four other designs with patterns offered in the book - a red sweater with a flower, a nouveau style long coat done with a pom pom fringe, a purple shawl with a floral edge and a light purple scarf with a really interesting donut-like fringe, which looks really neat. And all this isn't even the main theme of the book!

For interesting stitches, there are about 183 pages of stitch designs offered from Ribs, (think loop de loop, pom pom, fringe, etc.) Cords (loop de loop, herringbone, chain link knots, etc). There is a section on Appliques like the roses mentioned above, leaves, other types of flowers, discs, donuts. The Colour section takes the stitches and mixes them up with two or more colours of yarn used to create patterns--this is beyond your basic fairisle stitch, and covers stiches such as "Sugar Twists" and Knotty Stripes". Some of the colour stitches use graphs to plot out where each colour is used. The last section called Nouveau covers the really cool and trendy stuff. Here are directions to twisted loops and cable knots, open work, layered flaps, holsters, ruffles, etc.

At the back of the book is a term and stitch abbreviation and it does give an explanation of how to do the stitch. There's also a few examples of stitches with colour drawings (Kitchener, Duplication and Embroidery Stitches).

This book is well worth the investment as a reference source for hundreds of stitches to apply to the edges of your knitted garments. Happy Knitting Everyone!

Lots of NEW ideas!5
Very decorative and very innovative.
However, if you are a beginner on knitting, it may take a while to figure out the pattern.
It's fun, good book to buy for your knitting library !!
