What teachers are saying about the series: "I love the fact that these are Canadian adventures-kids should know how exciting Canadian history is. Emily and Matt are regular kids, full of curiosity, and I can see readers relating to them." (Jean K., teacher, Ontario) In the fifth book in this fast-paced series, Matt and Emily witness a historic moment in flight. On Feb. 23, 1909, before a crowd of astonished onlookers, Alexander Graham Bell's Silver Dart took flight. From the frozen Bras d'Or Lake on Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia, the pilot took off and piloted the plane for about half a kilometre along the shoreline before making a smooth landing. Emily and Matt are on hand to witness this amazing story of the first independently operated flight in Canada. Ages 6-9.

Editorial Reviews
Review
If you can turn moments from the past into heart-pounding adventure stories, you’ll hook children on history for life. That’s what this time travel series by Toronto’s Frieda Wishinsky does so well…This series is like a well-taught history class: engaging, smart and full of surprises. (Chronicle Herald )
History is now more readable thanks to this series. Facts are effortless to learn, and history is easier to understand…Children will become fascinated with Canadian history after reading the books in the ‘Canadian Flyer Adventures’ series. Emily and Matt will become synonymous with time travel and the envy of many seven to nine year old boys and girls. (CM Magazine: Canadian Review of Materials )
Young readers’ attention will be held not only by the interest and authenticity of the Canadian adventure, but also by the suspense…Readers who enjoy this volume will want to read the others in the series. (Resource Links )
The Canadian Flyer Adventures are perfect for confident middle-school readers because they’ve got a lot going on…Author Wishinsky is clever, however; the kids get a good dose of history, heritage and flavour of the moment without knowing it…For a splendid trip back in time, take another fine ride on the Canadian Flyer (The Hamilton Spectator )
