Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal
PreS–An exuberant CD accompanies Iza Trapani's 1993 picture book, which builds on the classic song to take the Itsy Bitsy Spider on an adventure through a house, climbing up walls, buckets, and chairs, and facing setbacks such as fans, mice, and cats, until she finally climbs high into a tree to spin her web and enjoy a much-deserved rest in the sun. The CD's first track features an introduction by the author; on track 2, a group of kids join her in a joyful sing-along of the book, with appropriately placed musical breaks for page turns. The cheery music is a perfect match for Trapani's vibrant illustrations. Track 3 is a straight read-along performed very expressively by Valerie Stephens with page-turn signals and musical sound effects. A delightful twist on the usual read-along.–Kathleen Kelly MacMillan, Maryland School for the Deaf, Columbia

From AudioFile
Everyone knows the "Itsy Bitsy Spider" song, but Trapani has re-written it, adding some bells and whistles. Children will be as fascinated as ever. This production has three parts: An introduction by the author is followed by Trapani singing her version, accompanied by children. Although not a professional singer, Trapani conveys contagious enthusiasm. Next Valerie Sanders reads the story, complete with tinkling sound effects. Sanders's voice resonates with warmth and comfort. The bright read-along book and multicolored recording will attract even the youngest listeners. The itsy bitsy spider, who once climbed the water spout, has exciting encounters with a fan, a rocking chair, a cat, and a maple tree, until he finally finds a place to spin his web.
