Product Description

Using fibers with clay is not a new idea, but using fibers absorbed within the structure of the clay body is a concept that has recently, and rapidly, taken root among potters. Paperclay is now widely recognized as a material which allows great freedom of expression, relieving the maker of many of the technical problems associated with conventional clays. With lavish illustrations throughout, Working with Paperclay and Other Additives provides the expertise to inspire potters to discover this exciting material and, for those already smitten, to try new techniques and ideas by drawing on the examples and experiences from different artists.

Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal
Paperclay is a relatively new pottery medium involving the addition of paper or other organic material to conventional clay in order to give it strength and flexibility. For the past ten years, it has been the subject of experimentation in Scotland, where the author lives, and in several other countries. This highly technical account includes discussions and illustrations of the work of ceramic artists who work with this type of clay. There are no projects as such, but the description of materials and methods is valuable for potters working with this medium. This book is recommended for academic and public libraries supporting advanced potters.
