A New Kind of Christian
|
Product Description
A New Kind of Christians conversation between a pastor and his daughters high school science teacher reveals that wisdom for lifes most pressing spiritual questions can come from the most unlikely sources. This stirring fable captures a new spirit of Christianity--where personal, daily interaction with God is more important than institutional church structures, where faith is more about a way of life than a system of belief, where being authentically good is more important than being doctrinally right, and where ones direction is more important than ones present location. Brian McLarens delightful account offers a wise and wondrous approach for revitalizing Christian spiritual life and Christian congregations. 8 hrs

Paul Michael's depiction of Pastor Dan Poole as an earnest, struggling pastor in a crisis of faith is delivered in tones of genuine angst. When Poole approaches Neo, his daughter's high school science teacher, to investigate leaving the pastorate for teaching, an interesting dialogue begins. Neo is portrayed with a thick Jamaican accent while Poole's conversational tone is without accent. Their discourse compares ancient, modern, and postmodern thinking, analyzing how each period views scripture. The dialogue is overflowing with personal theology outside the biblical construct. Michael's performance is excellent, but fundamental Christians may question McLaren's view of Christianity. G.D.W. © AudioFile 2007, Portland, Maine-- Copyright © AudioFile, Portland, Maine
