Product Description

Our climate crisis may at times appear to be happening slowly, but in fact it is happening very quickly—-and has become a true planetary emergency . The Chinese expression for crisis consists of two characters. The first is a symbol for danger ; the second is a symbol for opportunity . In order to face down the danger that is stalking us and move through it, we first have to recognize that we are facing a crisis. So why is it that our leaders seem not to hear such clarion warnings? Are they resisting the truth because they know that the moment they acknowledge it, they will face a moral imperative to act? Is it simply more convenient to ignore the warnings? Perhaps, but inconvenient truths do not go away just because they are not seen. Indeed, when they are responded to, their significance doesn’t diminish; it grows. -- Al Gore

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly
The much-discussed and highly regarded 2006 book and film by Gore arrives on audio two years later. While the material and central focus on global warming is clearly the most important aspect of the book, Beau Bridges is the only truly captivating reader here. Cynthia Nixon and Blair Underwood tend to drone on in monotone voices that take some of the impact out of Gore's findings. Bridges, however, reads with a stern and commanding tone that grips readers from the very start, never failing to relate the information with sheer honesty and true grit. As a whole, the audio is still as important and poignant as the original, and though certain aspects have been left out, the listener is still met with the same urgency to act. A Rodale paperback.

An Inconvenient Truth3
"An Inconvenient Truth" surprised me when I first looked through it. I was expecting more words and more studies and less pictures and less about Al Gore's nifty life.

Yes, global warming is a fact and this book does a good job in getting that point across. It contains photographs which compare the before and after effects of global warning, but the pictures do not clearly provide the month or season that they were taken, so they do leave some doubt in the reader's mind as to the evidence being provided by the book.

The book does serve a purpose in that it has made me think more of our poor earth and it has encouraged me to lessen my carbon footprint.

Al Gore has done an excellent job on this book5
First, let me say that I'm not reviewing Al Gore, just the book, An Inconvenient Truth--and I felt the urge to make that clear. As tempting as it is, but this is not a political forum, however. Gore's facts are legion, and his way of stringing them together is intelligent and compelling--building a powerful picture of a world ecology at risk. An Inconvenient Truth is very informative and an easy to read book. The material presented flows coherently. The pictures are astonishing, and the charts and the supporting data are easy to grasp. Former vice-president Al Gore has done an excellent job on this book and shared his years of experience on climate issue by putting together an outstanding presentation suitable for all ages and backgrounds. Gore has managed to paint a clear picture of the human caused aspects of global warming and the need to kick efforts at reducing our heat producing activities into high gear. It's a well-written analyses on global warming: covers all the bases and, instead of ignoring the critics, intelligently acknowledges their arguments and refutes them. Even if you don't like Al, I think you'll find he knows the subject well. And if you read what he has to say, instead of forming your opinion based on negative things you hear from other people, you may even develop respect for Al, if you aren't one who already has it.
