Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal
Those awaiting the further adventures of Twicki Woo, the pampered Pekingese, may be disappointed to find only a postscript. Those seeking an excuse to reread selections from the author's popular book quartet ( All Creatures Great and Small , etc.) chronicling his Yorkshire veterinary experiences will be gratified to discover this collection of tales solely about dogs. The repackaging of these stories (some never published in the United States) has not lessened their charm or obscured the author's delightful insight into human and canine character. An optional purchase for limited-budget libraries, but most others should buy to meet the expected demand. Kimberly Megginson, VA Medical Ctr. Lib., Bedford, Mass.

From School Library Journal
Grade 9 Up. James Herriot's Favorite Dog Stories is read very convincingly by Christopher Timothy, who starred as James Herriot is the BBC television series, All Creatures Great and Small. His British accent is precise and easy to understand. The stories are delightful and often reveal much more about the dog's owner than the dog itself. Since these short stories are presented in unabridged form, they lend themselves to use by reluctant readers as an interesting enticement into the literary world. There are many natural breaks. Those who enjoy Herriot's animal tales will enjoy this tape immensely.?Pat Griffith, Schlow Library, State College, PA

From AudioFile
With all the escapades James Herriot captured in his stories of life as an English country vet, favorites are inevitable. Christopher Timothy, who played the British veterinarian on television, conveys his relish for the countryside and country folk, not to mention the animals. Timothy delivers the stories with cozy reminiscence and a soft burr. Collected from Herriot's various volumes, this title and Favorite Cat Stories are sold as two-cassette programs. Herriot's generous nature and honest concern coupled with Timothy's friendly style are a winning combination. The short length of these programs will also attract listeners. A great opportunity to introduce new listeners to audio. R.F.W. (c)AudioFile, Portland, Maine
