Editorial Reviews
From School Library Journal
PreSchool-Opening with a spread depicting a jungle set against a stark white background, this book asks, "Do you know where wild babies sleep?" Each page turn provides a new answer and introduces a different animal sleeping as its mother watches. Overall, the creatures-a kangaroo, a stingray, a dormouse, a porcupine, a puffin, etc.-seem rather docile for "wild" animals. The book concludes with the narrator showing that "the wildest baby of them all"-her own human child-sleeps in her house. Minimal text ("Baby Armadillo sleeps nestled in a nest of grass") relies heavily on the illustrations for detail. Siomades's cut-paper collages appear to cast shadows, giving a three-dimensional effect. The pictures are bright and pleasant, though the perspectives sometimes seem amiss. For young toddlers, this additional purchase makes a nice bedtime story or conversation starter about different places to sleep.
