Editorial Reviews
From School Library Journal
PreSchool-Grade 3-These five stories for emerging readers, focusing on vowel combinations, utilize rhyming stanzas to convey simple plots. The stories are all written by Barbara deRubertis, with illustrations by Eva Vagreti Cockrille. They will appeal to the intended audience, although the text occasionally sacrifices clarity for the sake of rhyme. The colorful book illustrations, as well as the accompanying male narration, strengthen the experience for children. One side of the cassette is for read-along, the other side is the listening version. Themes addressed include friendship, cooperation, confidence, adventure and sharing. Each book includes suggested activities relating to the storyline. Schools and libraries will find this phonics set a useful addition to their collection.

"These simple, fun stories capitalize on children's natural desire to learn to read. The stories also stress positive behavior traits such as sharing, friendship, and responsibility. This phonics series is a good addition to school or library collections."
Ingram
Bad experiences with a bully make Wally the Walrus balk at going to school before he learns to call upon his natural abilities to prove himself.
