Product Description
This guide to the art of creating portraiture in applique emphasizes the drawing process and the subtleties of shaping realistic features such as eyes, noses, mouths, ears and hands. Detailed photographs show the step-by-step construction sequences for an eye and a mouth. The roles of colour and value are covered, and machine applique is demonstrated.

Editorial Reviews
From Library Journal
The ancient needlecraft of appliqu? takes on a new form in the hands of Anderson. She begins by tracing dramatic, well-lit photos of her subject, then cuts and appliqu?s cloth to create somewhat realistic images. Her work falls somewhere between quilting and portraiture, with a little abstract art thrown in. Anderson expertly guides the student through photography, tracing, lighting effects, and the details of stitching eyes and mouths. Her "features" here also include those of animals. A fine follow-up to Anderson's Faces and Places: Images in Appliqu? (C&T, 1995).
