"Color in Garden Design is not an easy book to read. Nor can you breeze through the photographs and pick up basic information about combining flower colors. Instead, Austin's approach to color is rigorous and professional; the book should be required reading for a complete course in garden design. If you are the kind of gardener who wants to know why, or if you are in the design profession, this book will bridge the gap between the purely scientific studies of color and the way color is used and responded to in the garden. Like serious gardeners who insist on Latin binomials for identification of plants, Austin pushes the reader to understand some of the technical language of color.
