Editorial Reviews
From Booklist
With the arrival of recent electronic technology, libraries have been confronted with new staffing issues, and this resource offers strategies to meet these challenges. Comprised of 10 parts, the text discusses staffing as it relates to libraries as "lean" organizations (ones that are flexible, adaptable, and resourceful), staff competencies, competency-based job descriptions, out- and in sourcing, Web site development, digital resources, staffing options, and the expanding definition of the term staff. In addition to its well-organized design, clear content, and focused scope, the book provides practical, hands-on information in worksheets, tables, and planning tools. Each chapter is strengthened by an annotated list of Internet and print resources, and the source guide that concludes the book is a particularly welcome addition, as it provides four real-world examples to study. Overall, a very fine work that should prove beneficial for most libraries. Sean Kinder
