Product Description
A brand new atlas of our continent.
This brand new atlas presents the increasingly multicultural and diverse realm that is North America. Divided into three sections covering the United States (including Puerto Rico and the U.S. Pacific Territories), Canada and Mexico, this atlas uses up-to-date maps, expert narrative coverage and revealing statistics to illustrate the continent's geographic and social features.
Each country section opens with a map and a color-coded legend to the regional maps that follow. All 50 U.S. states (plus Washington, D.C.), the 13 Canadian provinces and territories (including Nunavut) and Mexico's 32 states are illustrated in brilliant, large-scale maps. Presenting an outstanding depth of detail, they include:
- Settlements and administration (population, boundaries, counties, national parks, Native reservations, capitals and points of interest) and communications (highways, railroads, airports and canals)
- Physical features (streams, swamps, dry lakes, mountain passes, peaks and their elevations, deserts and valleys)
- Each country's larger urban centers (41 u.s., six Canadian and four Mexican), including roads, tunnels, railroads, subway stations, public buildings, parks and churches.
Additional features are:
- Narrative sections with an informative essay on a region's history, geography, industry and capital city
- "At a glance" tables of recent statistics on a region's demographics, languages, housing, education and business
- A comprehensive index of 40,000 place names and geographic features, with latitude and longitude coordinates and alphanumeric grid references
- Page-number indicators and locator windows that make it easy to identify and find adjacent maps.
The abundance of detailed data and magnificent maps make this atlas an unparalleled reference and research tool.

Editorial Reviews
From Booklist
Since Philips Cartography is considered one of the best and is used by many atlas publishers, it is not surprising that new atlases appear that look very much like something you have seen before. This is the case with the Firefly Atlas of North America, which is similar to the Oxford Atlas of North America (2005). The Firefly Atlas does not include the cultural, physical, and political maps of the regions. The individual state, province, and city maps are identical except for slight color differences. Firefly arranges the maps by region rather than alphabetically. It includes a full-page map of Greenland that is not in the Oxford. Each includes a gazetteer, but Firefly has more photographs of the states and less text. This new atlas is recommended for libraries that do not have the Oxford atlas. It has fewer pages (272 versus 320) but is $55 compared to $125 for the Oxford. Christine Bulson
