About the Author

HELEN BISHOP MacDONALD is the Director of Nutrition at the Dairy Farmers of Canada, and is also a charter fellow of the Canadian Dietetic Association. She has acted as the nutritionist for the NHL’s Calgary Flames and for Canadian athletes at the ’88 Olympics in Seoul, Korea. She is the author of Eating for the Health of It, and co-author of The Total Fibre Book and Eat Well, Live Well: The Canadian Diabetic Association’s Guide to Healthy Living. She has also been a nutrition columnist at Canadian Living magazine, a lecturer at Dalhousie University and Mount St. Vincent University, and was Assistant Professor at the Université de Moncton. Her work as a researcher resulted in the publication of six papers on topics including obesity and weight loss, meat and its place in the diet, and choice vegetables for beta carotene, vitamin C, and fibre. In 1987, she was presented with the General Foods Award for Excellence in Nutrition Communication. Currently she is the 2005 chair-elect of the Dieticians of Canada.
