Product Description
Marco Polo was one of the finest and most famous clippers of all time. This impressively researched book is the first to present the ship’s full story in a single volume. Cleverly conceived and built in Saint John, New Brunswick, in 1850-51, Marco Polo absolutely astounded the maritime world when, in 1852-53, it became the first ship ever to sail from England to Australia and back in under six months and twice around the world in under a year. Through the use of original materials such as the ship’s on-board newspaper, letters and journals written by the ship’s passengers and an account of Marco Polo’s wreck at Cavendish, PEI, written by Lucy Maud Montgomery, the author transports the reader back in time. Engagingly written for a general audience, Marco Polo: The True Story of The Fastest Ship is a gripping human drama and a lively study of the life and times of a truly great ship and how it affected the lives of people on three continents.
