If Only More Physicians Would Read This Book!
As a physician specializing in Preventive Medicine for adults, I can highly recommend this book. This is an excellent and thoroughly researched review of brain function and pathology and the accessible treatments recommended by Dr. Perlmutter make sense physiologically in terms of really attempting to heal what appears to be going wrong in each disease or degenerative state. What is so tragic in medicine today is that so few physicians remember their basic science, or make any effort to remain real students of the human body. They just memorize a treatment protocol for each diagnosis, and try each medication as they are presented by the pharmaceutical companies, and that unfortunately, becomes the "standard of care" in the medical community. Most physicians get virtually no training in nutrition, and physiology and biochemistry are endured in the first year or two of medical school and forgotten. It is wonderful to see Dr Perlmutter bring this science back to the table in looking at the brain, and then to look first at healing the brain with the nutrients that it needs to repair itself and restore the natural neurochemical balance, bloodflow, conductivity and stability that it needs to function properly. It's a true genius who can write such a book so that a physician can read it and remember his or her important first years of medical school, and the interested and non-medical reader can also read it and comprehend enough to use this valuable reference to take better care of their own brain and learn how to help a loved one with a crippling mental or neurological disease. Highly recommended reading! www.stress-medicine.com
Clear, Smart, Useful! James Schaller, MD, MAR, DABPN, DABFM
As a Research Physician I have struggled for years to find a solid and clear book for patients on health and neurology that is more than mere drug options.
Dr. Perlmutter is a brilliant writer and this is one of the few books I bought this year that I felt was a steal.
His discussion of nutrition is rich, academic, but profoundly clear. If a loved one has brain limitations, this is a grade A place to start learning options.
Good luck finding a better and time efficient book on non-drug treatments for brian disease.
Awe-inspiring
This book is an amazing structure with which to work off of. The information is amazing, and the author tells it in a easy to read manner.
