Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal
Covering all types of cancer in general terms, this tome from the American Cancer Society discusses detection, diagnosis, and treatment in five parts, subdivided into 31 chapters. Throughout, the information is presented logically, clearly, and in a visually accessible manner, with copious subheads, sidebars (case histories, checklists, dos and don'ts, etc.), headnotes (Tips and Advice, Cancer Basics), and questions to ask the doctor. Updated from the 1997 edition, this volume reflects the most recent developments in the field and includes new chapters on symptoms, coping with fatigue, and the finances of cancer. Unfortunately, only Part 6 features specific cancers, including just seven pages on breast cancer. Patient health collections should purchase this as a jumping-off point for concerned users; breast cancer patients will need more information.
