About the Author
Dr. Nikita Ovsyanikov is the Senior Research Scientist for the Russia-based Pacific Institute of Geography, Academy of Sciences. Since 1990, he has studied the polar bears on Wrangel Island in the High Arctic, living alone among the bears during most of his research. He was a scientific consultant and organizer for several BBC productions filmed on Wrangel Island, including the documentary Realms of the Russian Bear. He and his wife and daughter live in Moscow when not walking among the bears.
