Editorial Reviews
From School Library Journal
Grade 6-9-Two books of experiments that range from simple to relatively complex. While some of the activities can be found in other sources, Gardner does a fine job of presenting them in a clear, straightforward manner. The required materials are listed at the beginning of each experiment. Activities or parts of activities that require adult supervision are designated. Simple and uncluttered line drawings illustrate the scientific laws and principles under discussion. In many cases, the author does not explain what happened, but offers a series of questions for readers to think about instead. Physics in the Home goes from living room to kitchen to bathroom, with a side trip to the playground. Plants is organized so that activities with seeds lead to leaves, roots, flowers, and the whole plant. Each book has a list of suppliers for science projects-something that's quite useful, but not needed for most of the experiments in these books. Very good indexes and lists of suggested books and Internet sites are appended. Libraries with a need for more science-project materials will find these titles useful.
