The BEST Bird Book
I have lots of books on methods to attract birds to the yard. This is the best and well worth the purchase. In a relaxed format, complete with detailed illustrations Sally Roth shows you how to set up your garden or yard to bring in the birds and get them to stay a while and come back. She covers topics that you'd expect. For example, what types of trees, flowers or plants are useful to attract birds because of their fruit, seed, nectar, bedding material, etc.
She describes bird behaviour from eating, fighting, mating, etc., all with an aim on how to set up the yard/garden to meet their needs.
She describes setting up birdbaths, how to use binoculars, bird feeders, and bird houses. Their are recipies for the do-it-yourselfer and instructions on how to help baby birds.
I found the most useful info to be the directions on how to attract specific birds. I have implemented many of the suggestions with great success and refer to the book often. My favourite suggestion was about putting bits of string and yarn out for nesting birds. The biggest thrill I got was when Orioles were coming for the string to build their nest. Thanks Sally!!!
The book has so much more than what I've mentioned - there are about 285 pages of hints, tips and tricks. Don't waste time on other books - this is the BEST and most detailed book.
Happy Bird Watching Everyone.
Attracting Birds Made Simple
This colorful book is full of many ideas for attracting birds and keeping them interested in your backyard. There are many books on this subject, but this book is exceptional.
Sally Roth's explanations of how to go about attracting feathered friends are easy to understand and further made easy by the many illustrations.
I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in birds and their unique habits.

There are many wonderful suggestions for attracting birds and detailed instructions for implementing them, including wonderful & fun recipes. This is what the Audabon Backyard Bird Garden book should have been but isn't--so buy this one instead--useful, fun to read as well as to implement, wonderfully organized, and visually very attractive--a real winner!!!
