Editorial Reviews
From Library Journal
The northern shore of the largest of the Great Lakes, from Duluth to Sault Ste. Marie and mostly in Canada, is the locale for this interesting view of the geology, history, and natural history of an area away from the mainstream. Several chapters review the geology, Indian life (Ojibway), fur trade, and logging and mining industries. Much of the book is about what Waters calls the "Fish Story"the history of the Indian, commercial, and sport fisheries of the lake, including the terrible impact of the lamprey. Other chapters cover birds, deer and moose, and Isle Royale and Lake Nipigon. Excellent and recommended for most readers. R. G. Schipf, Univ. of Montana Lib., Missoula
