Product Description
Using first-person accounts, from slave narratives to contemporary interviews and Tina Turner's autobiography, this book describes a historical legacy of violence against black women in the United States. The author places spiritual matters within a discussion of the psycho-social impact of assault, and seeks to identify specific social mechanisms which contribute to the reproduction of intimate violence. She argues that cultural beliefs as well as institutional practices must be altered, and suggests methods of resistance which can be used by victim-survivors, professional helpers and the Church.

"After several years of serious scholarship, Kelner concludes that tourism is the great equalizer, an opportunity for institutions to compete for the ability to represent a people.Though not the first book to explore Birthright's impact, "Tours That Bind" approaches the subject academically, analyzing how Israel co-opts the Jewish diaspora to strengthen its nation-state."-Jewish Book World,
