Editorial Reviews
From Library Journal
Pannenberg offers a powerful argument that "a theological doctrine of God that lacks metaphysics as its discussion partner falls into either a kerygmatic subjectivisim e.g., focusing on proclamation of the gospels or a thoroughgoing demythologization," or both simultaneously. Equally, metaphysics depends upon theology: "philosophical reflection has been related from the outset to a religious awareness of the divine which preceded it historically." Pannenberg, a leading contemporary theologian, refers to a wide spectrum of historical and modern opinion from both disciplines, while addressing issues of subjectivity and action, anticipation and finitude, part and whole.

Guthrie's work on the Pastoral Epistles is part of the Tyndale New Testament Commentaries, a popular series designed to help the general Bible reader understand clearly what the text actually says and what it means without depending unduly on scholarly technicalities.
