Editorial Reviews

From Amazon.com
Preschoolers will want to return to this vivid, lively interactive board book again and again to identify all the alphabetically organized words. Every two-page spread features four to seven letters and is packed with crisp captioned photos of people, activities, and familiar objects. Among the many pictures are 45 flaps young readers can lift for still more alphabetical delights: lift the wing of the flying bird for a picture of feathers. Under pizza is, of course, a plate. Behind the window is a girl with a watering can. Kids will giggle at the touches of humor in the book. Behind the flap of the girl is a picture of the same girl wearing very goofy glasses. Two kids stand side by side under the letter K; lift the flap to see one kid trying to kiss the other.

DK Publishing's signature style, with its beautifully photographed subjects, will be very familiar to fans of the many other My First Word books, including My First Number Sticker Book, My First Word Lift-the-Flap Board Book, and My First Animal Board Book. (Ages 2 to 5) --Emilie Coulter

A FUN BOOK5
This book is fun! It is also a great educational tool. The pictures are big, bright, and bold...just right for young eyes! We gave this to my great-neice for Christmas. She unwrapped lots of gifts that night (even some dolls). However, she went straight for this little book. Carrying it around all night looking under the flaps, saying "Look Momma!!!!!". That's proof enough right there!

My One Year Old Loves this book!!4
What I appreciate about this book is that the pictures are actual photographs rather than drawings. Most books for babies tend to be cartoon drawings and it makes it confusing for children to learn the words for things when they try to relate to a cartoon dog versus a real dog (for example). This book shows many, many pictures and words of real everyday things. The flaps add even more fun to the book and really get the babies involved.

Colorful and Fun - a great combination4
Trying to get two year old active twins to sit with a book is very difficult. I was thrilled to see a lift the flap book (which they love) combined with learning the alphabet. The size of the book is large so both boys can see and play with a page at the same time. They get a little frustrated when not every picture has a flap to lift to show another picture but they are definitely engaged and interacting with this book and the letters -- just what we wanted!
