Editorial Reviews

From Booklist
Reviewed with Chuck Murphy's Slide 'n Seek: Shapes.

Ages 1-5. Great for the lap-sit audience, these small, square, interactive board books in the Slide 'n Seek series have pull-out panels on each page with hidden pictures that reveal surprising connections to point at and talk about. The first page in Opposites shows a small girl going down the stairs; pull the tab at the top of the page, and there's a picture of a boy going up the stairs. A candy jar is full; pull the tab, and the candy jar is empty. In the book on shapes, the first page shows and names a circle; pull the tab, and there's a tricycle with wheels. Murphy does the same thing with other shapes: see the shape, name it, and then pull the tab to recognize the shape in everyday things. The colors are clear and bright; the uncluttered design is sturdy enough to withstand lots of repetition. Even when a child has pulled the tabs over and over again and knows what's hidden there, there's fun in the sudden transformations. Hazel Rochman

This author is brilliant!!5
All of his seek n slide books are amazing and I highly recommend them. My daughter knew all her colors, shapes, numbers and opposites before the age of 2 because of these books. Opposites, just like the others, are made specifically for a younger child. I would say 9mo -3 yrs old. My daughter LOVES to pull the slide tabs out and they are very sturdy and have held up to constant pulling. These books teach by reinforcing what is learned in the pull tab. It is a great memory game as well. Chuck Murphy knows how to make books that younger kids will not only appreciate but actually learn fast!

My son loved this book so much he destroyed it. It is a very sturdy book, but he read it so many times it finally fell to pieces. I just bought him a new copy--what more can I say.
