Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal
PreS. Rosie continues her episodes begun in Playtime with Rosie Rabbit and Bedtime for Rosie Rabbit (S & S/Little Simon, 1996) with more lift-the-flap titles. The boldly colored cartoon drawings are definitely suited to the intended audience. Most of the pages call for children to identify pictures; however, several concepts are touched upon?matching, counting, colors, and shapes?which may confuse youngsters. Poor grammar appears in Preschool, "Which shapes is Rosie holding?" Flaps and drawings are well-engineered to change Rosie's movements to respond to the text. However, in Birthday Party, readers are instructed to lift Rosie's dress, a behavior most parents and teachers attempt to discourage at this age. Although the themes have potential, these books need refinement.?Marsha McGrath, Clearwater Public Library, FL
