Product Description

Elizabeth Dane has helped hundreds of people control their weight and lead healthier, calmer, more rewarding lives. Now it’s your turn. With Dr. Dane’s breakthrough new book, you can finally look–and feel–exactly the way you want . . . and restore and rejuvenate your body and spirit at the same time!

Why does the diet that works wonders for your best friend fail miserably when you try it? The answer, says Dr. Dane, is metabolic type. Our metabolic types determine not only the rate at which we burn calories but also our cravings for particular foods, our changing energy levels throughout the day, the amount of rest and exercise we need, even our personalities. It stands to reason that if you follow a diet that is not tailored to your own meta type, it simply won’t work–no matter how conscientiously you follow the routine.

In a program that is anything but routine, Dr. Dane combines the wisdom of ancient Eastern medicine with the latest findings of Western medical science to create a weight loss and lifestyle strategy exclusively for you. This remarkable book includes a detailed, step-by-step, 28-day guide to your personal renewal, including:

• How to determine your meta type and start on your new life today
• Why you crave the foods that are most damaging to your body–and how to wean yourself off them
• Weekly shopping lists and menu plans that make your diet regimen a breeze
• Why the combination of foods is as essential as the amount of food you eat
• How to maximize your nutrients and burn off fat through correct food preparation techniques (for example, never fry foods containing protein)
• How to use vitamins, supplements, and elixirs to boost your body’s cell-renewing potential
• How natural stress busters like essential oils can ease and hasten weight loss
• An exercise program for your meta type that will condition, strengthen, and sculpt your body

Give yourself the body–and the life–you have always wanted. Far more than just a weight-loss program, Your Body, Your Diet is a detailed road map to a healthier, more vibrant, more energetic you!

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly
A diet doctor to such celebrities as Bebe Neuwirth and Anjelica Huston (and foreword writer Ann Reinking), Dane serves up a customized weight-loss plan for each of six metabolic types. Readers first complete a detailed questionnaire on their habits and preferences, which renders their types: the "synthesizer," for instance, is allowed a higher protein intake, while the more energetic "accelerator" may focus on carbs. She encourages aromatherapy, massage and exercise across the board, a holistic approach backed by Chinese medicine, in which Dane has a doctorate. Even though Dane claims that in a mere month followers will look and feel "like a million dollars," readers looking for a quick fix won't find one here: a slimming "synthesizer" tea, for example, includes no less than 22 separate ingredients, ranging from alisma to fennel fruit. Such methods are unlikely to work for readers without time on their hands. Still, the book's tone is friendly and encouraging, and dedicated dieters may find the metabolically oriented strategy gives them further insight into their needs. (On-sale date: July

From Library Journal
Dane, whose doctorate is in Chinese medicine and philosophy, posits that one's metabolic type, which ranges from strongly yin-based to strongly yang-based with several combinations on the continuum in between, determines the best weight-loss strategy for each type. The science/philosophy behind her argument is explained in jargon that sounds impressive but means little. The specific foods that are allowed, in whatever combinations, are so limited that no one could help losing weight, which Dane acknowledges by insisting that supplements (for sale by the author) are necessary, along with aromatherapy and herbal teas (ditto). Dane's diet, for example, includes "uncooked popcorn, with no oil or salt," hardly appetizing but probably effective for weight loss! She also recommends exercises combinations of yoga, t'ai chi, ballet, and other range-of-motion and stretching movements for each type. There are the usual celebrity endorsements from Ann Reinking and others. While it may be popular with New Agers, this is virtually useless as a sustainable diet plan. Not recommended. Susan B. Review
“On Dr. Dane’s diet plan, I lost the first ten pounds very quickly, then the next ten began to come off. But it wasn’t just the weight–I was sleeping better, I had more energy, and I had a much easier time recovering from jet lag. My skin got better–even my eyes sparkled. The results were dramatic.”
–ANN REINKING

“Not only did I feel unburdened of my many sorrows but something physically was happening to me. . . . My skin never looked better, and my spirits began to soar. Elizabeth is part witch, great humanitarian, and doctor.”
–ANJELICA HUSTON

“I feel like a brand-new being after being on Elizabeth’s program. Sparkle Plenty.”
–BEBE NEUWIRTH
