"I'll feed you hay, hay, hay, / And peanut tea, tea, tea, / If you will stay, stay, stay, / And live with me, me, me." Does the distinctive rhythm of Mary Ann Hoberman's adaptation of Miss Mary Mack get your toes a-tapping or hands a-clapping? Or, do your wee ones prefer "cats in the buttermilk, shoo fly shoo" from Skip to My Lou? Or, perhaps they giggle most at the madcap wisdom of The Lady with the Alligator Purse who prescribes pizza when the doctor is pushing penicillin... You don't really have to choose. Preschoolers will adore these three exuberant song-based board books, two of which are adapted by the splendidly silly Nadine Bernard Westcott, all three of which come to life (and how!) with her vivacious, cartoonish illustrations. This tremendously appealing trio is packaged in a handy, child-friendly carrying case with an accompanying cassette tape of sing-along songs. (Baby to age 5) --Karin Snelson

Customer Reviews
OK, OK, four and a half stars
My one-and-a-half year old got this package from her aunt and uncle. She loves all three books, but The Lady With the Alligator Purse and Skip to my Lou in particular. My only real complaint is that the music is on a cassette, not a CD, so I can't play it in my car (though I suppose that may be a blessing of sorts), and I can't skip a track easily. Also, with just three songs it can get a bit repetitive, though my daughter is totally unconcerned about such quibbles. Be warned: the songs are infectious, and will get stuck in your head for days and days. Still, great fun for all.
