Four different women come together under the sometimes tenuous but always unbreakable bond of friendship.Ruth Johnson has finally left her abusive husband of fourteen years and jumped feet first into 'What the hell do I do now?' oblivion. Then into her life come three unforgettable women who turn her world upside down. Feisty, outspoken Bernice, a.k.a. 'Bernie,' has been there and done that when it comes to love and marriage. Her ex-husband is settled down with his much younger wife and her kids are grown, and Bernie is looking to enjoy her fellow man-in more ways than one-no strings attached...or so she thinks. Sweet Southern belle May has it all: a beautiful home, two wonderful children, and a fine husband who worships the ground she walks on, yet a shadow hangs over what should be her equally perfect life, threatening to shake up her happy home. The older, wiser Clara is their guiding force, and when disaster strikes, all three women rally around her, determined to see her through it. Life is just getting interesting, and if they hold on to each other, they just might make it.

Very Good Reading
I really enjoyed this book, very well written and looking forward to reading "One Day I Saw a Black King". Good Job
Eye opener!
This was a good book regarding abusive relationship. I have never been in abusive situation. But I have known people that have been. You always ask, "Why do you stay?" But after reading this book I finally got the answer. Eric just was a very awful man with problems within his self. Poor Ruth, she was just his punching bag. How can you claim you love someone and treat them badly like he did. Things he done was very uncalled for. Then when Ruth finally got out of the situation with Eric (husband), and finally got the nerve to meet someone, Adrian walks in here life, then out. I felt so sorry for Ruth, but Adrian had nerve. I understand he wanted to be a father to his child, but there are other ways to handle the sistuation. I think he was just being selfish there. I don't know if I could had forgiven Adrian and took him back or not. Something to think about. Get the book!
Therapeutic for all
I thought this book was going to be only about the actual abuse during its onset, but what was so great about this book to me was that it shows the post traumatic stress syndrome bad relationships can take us through, coupled with how one woman made it through the worst. I cried along with Ruth about Adrian, felt like he had did it to me,....and as bernie began to get on Ruth's nerve as Ruth grew more as her own person, I would get mad at Bernie along with Ruth....I really felt like this book made me feel like I went through the ups and down's with this woman in her struggle, even when she was being stubborn I understood her need to do so. If the beginning is slow because you are looking for the actual beatings hold on and press through this book you will remember how to love your self through Ruth.
