Product Description

Meet Nathaniel McDaniel, the mischievous hero of a delightful new series of adventures.

In Bigbeard's Hook, Nate discovers Gramps' attic and a treasure trove the likes of which he's never seen. There's even a real pirate's hook!

But when Nate reaches out to touch it—BA-ZANG—suddenly he's not in the attic any more, but aboard a ship and surrounded by pirates.

Before he knows it, Nate is facing the most dreaded, the meanest, the slobberiest pirate of them all—with a ten-foot red beard—known as the terror of Bristol! And the terror of Bristol is wanting back his hook...

Editorial Reviews

Books in Canada
April is poetry month, so it seems perfectly apt
to give Evan Solomon (and Bill Slavin, the illustrator)
a firm pat on the back.

His Nathaniel McDaniel books-so far there are two
are super adventure tales for youngsters,
and versified too

There’s grandfather’s mansion,
an attic, miscellaneous antiques,
ancient thinga-magics (the wordplay is planted,
a key to what happens-it’s not here just for kicks)

And grandpa, an oldster with a fluffy beard on his face
whom Nathaniel visits each Sunday
knows more than he lets on
about the strange stuff that takes place

About the boy being transported onto a pirate ship
or a prehistoric landscape
where he’s chased, even roasted by neanderthals,
but, in the nick of time, makes his escape

It’s thrilling, fun, and above all well written,
Like my own little one, I’m thoroughly smitten
with E.S. and B.S.-you won’t get tired
of their book’s many charms. I was inspired!
