Editorial Reviews

From Amazon.com
It's super-amazing, it's funk-da-crazing, it's boss. It's hipster chick authors Super Clea and Keva Marie's handbook for the "ridiculously cool-cool girl"--365 days' worth of silly and serious tips and things to make, do, and ponder, illustrated with scrapbook-style doodles, bad copies of snapshots, and many, many entertaining asides. Clea and Keva discuss and analyze everything, from the merits of sugar vs. fake sugar to badminton, from socks to stocks, from the Spice Girls to camouflage cowboy hats. They encourage readers to write their own zines, make doggy donuts, and celebrate England's bank holidays by renting Bonnie and Clyde. Basically, these girls just wanna, just wanna have fun (see October 1, "Today you shall attempt to talk in song lyrics, all day"). And any reader lucky enough to get her hands on this "road map to living a badass life... directory of all things crafty... inspiring diary thing that stokes you out... punk rock Girl Scout guide" will most definitely have fun. This is a daybook for reading, not a journal for writing in, although it will probably inspire anyone with an ounce of imagination to write her own daybook. (Ages 9 and older) --Emilie Coulter

From School Library Journal
Gr 8 Up-This book is crammed full of ideas, random facts, loopy conversations, and opinionated essays. On March 16th, readers learn how to get ink stains out of fabric. On May 30th, they find out how to say "I can communicate with my cat" in Spanish. On September 29th, Clea tells a story about a secondhand, purple, velvet zip-front jacket she once owned. On November 18th, the authors explain existentialism. Other days bring stern warnings about the dangers of sex and drug use. The majority of entries, however, deal with crafts, recipes, and party ideas-how to make your own lip gloss, bake "bloodshot eyeball" cupcakes, throw a slumber party, color Easter eggs, play the guitar, and much more. The authors' lighthearted attitude will entertain some and annoy others, as will their running commentary about hobbies, boyfriends, relatives, and political views. Every page is illustrated with photos, drawings, and varied fonts, but the quality of the photographs is poor, with many faces so dark it's difficult to make out the features. Teen girls who love crafts will enjoy this book, but more for ideas and inspiration than for specific step-by-step instructions, as most entries aren't detailed enough. Overall, this is a fun book to browse but it's rather slight.
